Diana and the 'love of her life': Naomi Watts and Naveen Andrews have fun on set as royal biopic continues filming

12 August 2012

Naomi Watt's uncanny transformation as Princess Diana continues to amaze as she was spotted larking about on set with Lost star Naveen Andrews, who plays her lover Dr Hasnat Khan.

With her hair chopped short, the Australian actress looks the spitting image of the late royal as she filmed scenes for Diana, which will focus on the last two years of life.

Watts and Andrews were filming scenes at Beachy Head in East Sussex, and the movie's concerned bosses made sure their stars were kept safe by attaching safety harnesses around them as they shot near the cliff edge.

But the pair seem unconcerned about their safety, as they were spotted smiling and having fun when the cameras weren't rolling.

At one point, Watts tried to combat the sunny weather by putting on some sunglasses and a fedora hat.

The movie was originally going to be called Caught In Flight, before being changed to Diana, and is directed by acclaimed Downfall director Oliver Hirschbiegel.

It will revolve around her relationship with Dr Khan - the man she dubbed 'Mr Wonderful'.

Diana's former butler, Paul Burell, said in 2006: 'The true love of her life, her soul mate, was a heart surgeon called Hasnet Khan. She met him while she was visiting someone in the Royal Brompton Hospital. The lift -- the elevator door -- was about to close and someone stuck their foot in it. The doors opened and she looked into his eyes and said, "I knew there and then.'"'

It's claimed that she was set to marry Khan, but he was reluctant because of the media attention.

Dr Khan confirmed in his testimonial at the inquest into her death that they ended their two year relationship months before her death in August 1997.

Naomi Watts has said previously about playing the iconic princess: 'She is a part of our history, an incredible woman and fascinating but a tragic ending.

'The film-makers came to me and it’s a good script and it’s very scary and I kind of wanted to say "no" but I couldn’t.'

The film is released next year.
