How has being a mother affected Naomi Watts' career? Profoundly, she said before the Film Independent Spirit Awards, where she was nominated for supporting female for her role in Rodrigo Garcia's "Mother and Child."

Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber at the Spirit Awards Watts said Saturday that she always considers her family now before accepting any part.

"So many different things factor into that one decision. Sadly, today, a lot of it today is about time and place and length of shoot, you know? Because now I'm a mom and I have to answer those questions," she said, as her husband, Liev Schreiber, lingered in the background.

"And then, of course, it has to be about the filmmaker and his vision. And then things like the part and, obviously, the other actors."

In "Mother and Child," Watts plays a rough-around-the-edges woman whose teen mother gave her up for adoption.

"She was complicated and beautiful," the actress said of the role, "and bitchy and sexy, and all those things. I just loved her."
