State Department dinner for Kennedy Center honorees on Dec 2, 2012

State Department of America celebrated the careers of seven extraordinary artists on Sun, Dec 2, 2012.

David Letterman, Led Zeppelin (3), Buddy Guy and Natalia Makarova are this year’s Kennedy Center Honors recipients.

Celebrities including Meryl Streep, Robert De Niro, Alec Baldwin, Glenn Close, Yo-Yo Ma, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber are amongst the honorable guests of the event hosted by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The big celebration was Sunday night, when a star-studded lineup – that is kept secret until showtime – meant many celebrities were on hand to salute each medalist. Aretha Franklin, Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber were among the stars who showed up at the big party.

Watts and partner Schreiber were set to pay homage to Hoffman.

"I just love his joie de vivre, He's got such a great sense of humor," said Watts, who wore a Roland Mouret gown as she strolled the red carpet.

Schreiber agreed, and said, "The only thing I would add is there's a rascal quality about him."

Pelosi physically collided with actress Naomi Watts on the red carpet, stepping for just a minute on the petite blond's blue gown. Watts attended with husband Liev Schreiber to honor Hoffman.

Schreiber praised his fellow actor's passion: "He thinks at a different velocity and burns at a brighter intensity."

Hillary was the host, and Obama was there too. Also Pelosi...et al. It's an honor.
