Naomi Watts maid of honour for her friend Emma Cooper

- Daily Telegraph, Dec 28, 2010

Star friends .... bride Emma Cooper with Naomi Watts

ACTRESS Naomi Watts yesterday honoured a promise to a longtime friend by stepping into the role as maid of honour at the wedding of Sydney-born film publicist Emma Cooper.

Watts, dressed in a cream lace dress, was one of the stars in the North Sydney wedding that featured an order of ceremonies that read like the credits of a Hollywood movie.

The third reading, Henry Lawson's After All, was delivered by Watts' partner, US actor Liev Schreiber.

After completing the reading, he left the pulpit at Shore Chapel and spent the rest of the ceremony entertaining the couple's two sons Sasha, 3, and Samuel, 2.

Other wedding guests included The Mentallist star Simon Baker and wife Rebecca Rigg and Lantana star Anthony La Paglia and wife Gia Carides, all of whom flew from Los Angeles.

Local stars Lisa Hemsley, comedian Mary Coustas, singer Mark Lisotte (aka Diesel) and the official wedding "witness", The Whitlam's Tim Freedman, were also among the guests, as was fashion designer Collette Dinnigan.

Cooper, who has befriended a legion of actors during her 20-year career as a publicist, is the daughter of NSW Father of the Year and former Taronga Zoo director Guy Cooper.

Yesterday it was a proud Mr Cooper who presented his daughter's hand in marriage to Australian television writer Henry Cripps, the former husband of actress Sarah Chadwick.

The bride, one of five sisters, was attended by Watts, three bridesmaids, two flowergirls and five tiny ushers dressed in long pants, white untucked shirts and waistcoats.

While six-year-old Bridget La Paglia turned cartwheels on the lawn, the congregation waited for its first glimpse of the bride - beautiful in an ivory New York-imported strapless dress - and her megastar maid of honour.

Watts, who is also godmother to Cooper's only child Casper, looked at home with her extended family around her - her own brother, fashion photographer Ben Watts, was the official wedding photographer.

Following the 4.30pm ceremony, the 120-strong wedding party retired to Taronga Zoo for an elegant reception.

The newlyweds, who are neighbours of Watts and Schreiber in New York, will return to the US in the next week.

Isn't Nicole Kidman also in Australia? If so, I wonder why is she not here?
