[Reviews] Watts elevates her ‘game’
Award-worthy performance helps boost film out of nebulous politics into an interesting take on modern-day marriage
By Dave Taggart, CavalierDaily on Nov 11, 2010
Whether she’s walking the halls of the CIA, dealing with a foreign contact in a tense situation or preparing breakfast for her family, Naomi Watts inhabits Fair Game with a cool, steely-eyed demeanor that rarely breaks, even when surrounded by her collection of well-off Washingtonian friends at dinner parties. Watts perfectly embodies Valerie Plame, the infamous ex-covert CIA agent who was said to be exposed by members of the Bush administration following her husband’s controversial op-ed contradicting the White House’s assertion about Iraq’s supposed purchase of nuclear materials from Niger. Indeed, Watts marches through each scene with a military-style determination that transcends the politics of the movie, creating an interesting study in character instead.
This is no easy task, and as Game spends its 108 minutes struggling to find its own identity, Watts’ performance becomes all the more appreciated. The story itself swings back and forth between being a pertinent yet tepid political thriller and a domestic drama tracking the dissolution and then recovery of a marriage. The ever-righteous — sometimes to a nauseating degree — Sean Penn plays Plame’s husband, Joe Wilson, and their scenes together in their Georgetown home are among the best the film has to offer.

[Reviews] Masterful performances by the leads, Naomi Watts and Sean Penn.
The dramatic courage of 'Fair Game'
- Chris Matthews, MSNBC
Let me finish tonight with a stirring movie I saw last night, "Fair Game."I had heard of the first-rate script, the masterful performances by the leads, Naomi Watts and Sean Penn.
What I was not prepared was "Fair Game" itself, the wondrous, dramatic courage of it all.
The movie opens with this preternaturally gutsy CIA agent out in the world of terror, trying to stop the spread of nuclear weapons from getting into dangerous hands. I was simply overwhelmed by the sheer "guts" of Naomi Watts' character. Anyone would be, especially an American, especially someone who has children like we do, young adults, and thinking how inspiring this must be to them, to have this "pull" to go out there and risk all for our country like this young woman did.

[Interviews] On 'Fair Game' ,Valerie Plame and Reuniting With Sean Penn
By Jenni Miller, Moviefone
Nov 5th 2010
Former CIA agent Valerie Plame was hung out to dry when journalist Robert Novak revealed her identity in 2003. Novak later admitted his information was from a government source, and many suspect this leak and her forced retirement was retaliation by the Bush administration for the New York Times editorial her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, wrote about the U.S. invasion of Iraq.
The revelation and its effect on the couple's lives and marriage is the basis of Doug Liman's new drama, 'Fair Game.' Naomi Watts plays Plame, a private woman whose life as an active CIA agent surprised her closest friends. Sean Penn plays her husband Joe Wilson, the outspoken former ambassador whose dedication to justice is only rivaled by his love for his wronged wife.
What was it like reuniting with Sean Penn again ('21 Grams'), especially on a movie that seems like it would be of particular interest to everyone involved?

Giorgio Armani: From Sketch to Star, Naomi Watts in Fair Game and The Modern Power Suit
Heightened Reality: The Giorgio Armani film fashions echo the real life Armani wardrobe of Valerie Plame Wilson
Giorgio Armani is no stranger to dressing strong woman both as leading ladies and in real life.
What's interesting this time is that Armani's collaboration with with costume designer Cindy Evans on select wardrobe looks for the Naomi Watts character, Valerie Plame Wilson in the film, "Fair Game" is based on reality.
“Giorgio Armani’s clothes are modern and feminine, always making me look my best and confident. This became even more important when I found myself, reluctantly, placed in the public eye,” says Plame Wilson.
Couldn't think of a better wardrobe to "scoot" around in...

[Article] Naomi: Being A Mom Is The "Most Rewarding Thing"
Nov 8, 2010
by MARSHA TAKEDA-MORRISON
Naomi Watts is a busy woman. Besides raising sons Sasha, 3, and Kai, 22-months with fiancé Liev Schreiber, she's also filming The Impossible with Ewan McGregor and promoting her new film Fair Game about outed CIA spy Valerie Plame. But Naomi makes it clear what her number one priority is.
"I love being a mum. I just love it. It's the most rewarding thing but the most challenging thing."
It's also apparent that Naomi is a very hands-on parent, as evidenced by her exhausting play schedule with her active sons. "I know all the playgrounds very well," she says. "On the weekends, we tend to spend the whole day outside. We ride bikes on the West Side Highway. We go up to the park. There's a little children's museum (downtown) and we go there. We went to the carousel. We go to Chelsea Piers. There's endless things to do."
And when it comes time to get to work, Naomi and Liev are fortunate to be able to take their kids to work with them. "When you're on the job, your kids come to the office, so to speak," Naomi continues. "They can hang out. It gets boring quick for them, but a lot of parents have regular work hours, and they're lucky if they get morning and bedtime with their children. We love what we do, but our kids are with us, always."
