Naomi as Daisy in Baz Lhurmann's "The Great Gatsby" w/DiCaprio as Gatsby? [rumors alert]

Now, this is what we heard, with great excitement, from one of our usually reliable Aussie's sources:

A little over a week ago the news that despite talk that the production had come to a standstill, the Baz Luhrmann's planned re-make of The Great Gatsby was still on the cards.

Lhurmann said at a New York dinner to honour Geoffrey Rush that he had 2 Hollywood studios competing for the movie. And that he would shortly decide which studio to go with.

Now the secret is out- The Great Gatsby is to be a Warner Bros production but the big news is that the film will be shot in Sydney at Fox Studios with Australian government backing.

The original Great Gatsby starred Robert Redford, Mia Farrow and Bruce Dern. Luhrmann's Gatsby will star Leo DiCaprio in the lead role with Naomi Watts and Toby McGuire co-starring with an estimated budget of $70M.

This is definitely something I'm looking forward to.

Though Naomi was indeed once "rumored" and I personally would like very much that she would be Daisy, but the finally casting is unfortunately not as per your Aussie source. :( The role of Daisy will be played by Carey Mulligan, with DiCaprio and Toby McGuire still on board.

Actually she would be with Leo in another movie "J. Edgar" directed by Clint Eastwood. That should be a much better film in my opinion. I never like Baz Lhurmann.

Not that much of a loss I would say. I'm actually glad that she passed this one up.
