With a glittering career in Hollywood and plenty of eggs in her nest you'd be forgiven for thinking that Naomi Watts has a lot of help.

You'd be forgiven, but you'd be wrong as the 43-year-old mother to Sasha, four, and two-year-old Sam is refreshingly hands on.

Today she could be spotted carrying bags to the car as she and her partner Liev Schreiber prepared to head out of Manhattan for Christmas.

The J.Edgar actress looked like any other mother as she smiled excitedly and knuckled down to get the family's Christmas underway.

She looked cute, but understated in fitted jeans and a striped jersey, with a thick black coat thrown over for warmth.

And it was definitely mommy mode for the hair, which was swept back in a practical and unfussy fashion.

It'll be a well earned break for the busy thespian, who is heading back to work in the new year.

Watts and Robin Wright are to headline French director Anne Fontaine’s next feature, The Grandmothers, which has been greenlit for investment funding by Screen Australia.

The erotic tale of misguided love and a celebration of the enduring nature of female friendship.

The Grandmothers tells the story of two lifelong friends who fall in love with each other’s teenage sons.

Based on Australian Nobel Prize-winning author Doris Lessing’s novel, it has been adapted for the screen by Oscar winner Christopher Hampton.

Xavier Samuel and James Frecheville will star alongside Watts and Wright.
