[Article] Naomi Watts: "I can’t relax"

Feb 1, 2012

Naomi Watts finds it hard to relax.

The actress thinks it took her a while to crack Hollywood because she didn’t feel at ease with her situation.

Now a fully established movie star, the blonde beauty says it was her lack of confidence that put of casting directors when she was starting out.

“I got a million different reasons [for finding it hard to conquer Hollywood]. I think I mostly had to learn how to be myself and relax before anyone could even recognise anything in me and I just wasn’t in a very relaxing situation. I’m just not a very relaxed person. I was too nervous and as you know, people like confidence, especially in America,” she told Australian radio show Kyle and Jackie O.

Naomi has starred in a number of hugely successful films including Mulholland Drive and King Kong.

The 38-year-old can next be seen in J. Edgar alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and is currently lending her face to wine company Jacob’s Creek.

The star got her family and friends involved in shooting the advertising campaign to make her feel more at ease.

“My brother shot it. He’s pretty good, he knows how to shoot me better than anyone no matter how fancy the photographer. He just knows how to capture my spirit I guess, and I manage to stay relaxed in front of the camera, which is not easy,” she said.

The mother-of-two also roped in her partner Liev Schreiber.

The couple has been dating since 2005 and they have two sons together but have not tied the knot yet.

But Naomi insists they’re spouses in all but name. “We’re like married, yes. The modern way,” she said.
