Naomi Watts has joked she’s only picked to play people who are “losing their minds”.
The British-Australian actress is renowned for portraying serious characters. She appears in upcoming drama The Impossible, which tells the story of a family caught in the Tsunami, and also plays Britain’s late Princess Diana in a biopic about the royal’s life.
Sometimes she wonders if it would be fun to branch out into other genres.
“They don’t call me for light-hearted roles, what’s up with that?!” she joked to Australian radio show hosts Kyle and Jackie O.
“They think I’m just a heavy kind of miserable [person]! They think I have to [play] the one that’s losing her mind!”
Naomi shot to fame in 2001 with psychological thriller Mulholland Drive, which also starred Justin Theroux.
Naomi suspects the film is the reason she isn’t considered for funny flicks and, despite the heavy subject matter, concedes she is happy to be chosen for movies with substance.
“I guess from being in Mulholland Drive, it was just a knock on effect from that,” she pondered.
“But those are the kind of films I enjoy; Mulholland Drive is a film that people still speak about ten years later. It’s nice to be in films that stand up like that.”

She can play all kinds of roles, but people are taking her too seriously.
She is good in I Heart Huckabee's, and very good in You Will Meet a Tall Dark Strange, both are comedy.
Serious? She is lovely.
