[Breaking News] Naomi Watts honored at Palm Springs International Film Festival

Nov 19, 2012

The stars are aligning in Palm Springs.

Actress Naomi Watts is the newest honoree at the Palm Springs International Film Festival joining Helen Hunt, who was announced last week.

Watts will receive the Desert Palm Achievement Actress Award for her work in the disaster film “The Impossible.” Watts plays a mother who is separated from her family during the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

The awards gala will be held Saturday, Jan. 5 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

Previous actresses who have been honored with the Desert Palm Achievement include Halle Berry and Natalie Portman.

“We’re delighted to pay tribute to Naomi Watts, one of the most gifted and versatile performers to grace the screen,” said Palm Springs International Film Festival chairman Harold Matzner in a news release. “‘The Impossible,’ the true story of the tsunami that stunned the world with its fury, is the vehicle for Ms. Watts to display the talent and sensitivity that cinema lovers have come to expect and appreciate from her. It is our honor to present the 2013 Desert Palm Achievement Actress Award to Naomi Watts, for a performance worthy of an Oscar nomination.”

Didn't she get this also for 21 grams? If so this is her 2nd.

She did. Usually receipients of this would also get the Oscar nominations as past records show.

Congrats. She deserves it. But isn't Helen Hunt a recipient too?
