The Impossible - UK Charity Premiere (Nov 19) Red Carpet Interviews (video)
Exclusive Interview: Naomi Watts At The Impossible Premiere
20 Nov, 2012
How is it possible for a woman to look this glamorous on a freezing cold Winter’s day? That was my first thought when Naomi Watts sauntered down the red carpet outside the IMAX cinema in London for The Impossible premiere. Her co-star Ewan Macgregor was left in the shadows and I bet that doesn’t happen to him very often.
The film has a serious side as Naomi plays a lady called Maria Belon who gets separated from her husband and children in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Reflecting this important true story, Naomi chose her black dress wisely. It was sophisticated without being flashy but the backless feature meant it captured photographers’ attention – always vital if you are promoting a film.
Despite the biting cold conditions, Naomi spent a while on the red carpet talking to all of us about the film. Here’s my exclusive mini interview:
Q: How would you describe your fashion sense?
NAOMI: “Eclectic. Sometimes I like feathers and sometime I like elegant trouser suits. I like to experiment and dress appropriately for an occasion.”
Q: Do the experiments always work?
NAOMI: “I got accused of wearing a really bad outfit at the Oscars a couple of years ago. I loved it, I thought it was beautiful, but everyone else hated it. It was a Givenchy flesh-coloured dress – very deconstructed. I like to experiment.”
Q: What do you wear when you are not working?
NAOMI: “Jeans and T-shirts, sunglasses, maybe a jacket. It varies.”
Q: Do you have a fashion icon who inspires you?
NAOMI: “Kate Moss, I would love to be her.”
Q: Finally, how did you find the filming of this movie?
NAOMI: “It was physically the most demanding ever movie. Even worse than King Kong. It’s so hard to work in water and I spent about a month in the tank trying to film everything. Every time you try to speak you end up swallowing water. It was tough.
The film will have you on the edge of your seats, but be warned – it’s not a light-hearted piece of escapism. Critics are predicting the Australian star will get an Oscar nomination for this!
