Deja vu? Naomi Watts is a Princess in love on set of film about final years of Diana's life

6 July 2012

Taken just weeks before her death, they were the pictures that showed the world that Princess Diana was in love with Dodi Al Fayed.

Now actress Naomi Watts, bearing a striking resemblance to the Princess, has revived memories of the famous 1997 images on the set of a new film about the final years of Diana’s life.

She shared an embrace with Cas Anvar, who plays the son of former Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed, on the deck of a yacht, and in another scene captured Diana’s pensive look as she walked alone in a paisley swimsuit.

[NW2005 FirstLook] "The Impossible" - official Teaser Posters and Banner

Scheduled to go public screening on Oct 11, 2012, Naomi's upcoming movie "The Impossible", co-starring Ewan McGregor and directed by J A Bayona, has just released 2 Teaser Posters and a Banner, and as usual, [NW2005] Group is having them here first in time for our members' exclusive viewing.

The Impossible: Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor In Terrifying Promos for Tsunami Pic

File under "Too Soon," perhaps: Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor star in The Impossible as a couple on holiday with their two young children in Thailand when the 2004 tsunami tragedy sweeps the region, leaving hundreds of thousands dead in 14 countries. Directed by Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage), the disaster drama is based on one family's experience and makes use of realistic CG and sets to recreate the event. And judging from the newly unveiled (and kind of terrifying) Spanish teaser poster, expect an intense treatment of the tragedy as seen through the eyes of the victims on the ground.

A previously released Spanish-language trailer depicted Watts and McGregor's happy family vacay interrupted by the catastrophic event, a tidal wave crashing through their seaside resort, hurtling Watts through the glass window pane of a botanical garden-looking structure. The effects are reminiscent of those used in Clint Eastwood's Hereafter to depict the same event, sequences which earned his VFX team an Academy Award nomination.

Canadian actor Cas Anvar was seen with Naomi Watts, who is playing the tragic royal, filming scenes for the movie, which was previously reported to be called 'Caught In Flight', but will go by the title of 'Diana'.

Naomi Watts takes on Princess Diana's most iconic look in plunging dress and jewels in first official shot from new movie

By Mike Larkin, 4 July 2012

With her blonde hair perfectly coiffed, a jewelled choker sitting around her neck and a plunging black dress highlighting her slim frame, there is certainly no confusion about which role Naomi Watts is taking in on her new movie.

In the first official picture from the upcoming movie about Princess Diana, Naomi takes on what was arguably the late princess' trademark look.

The official shot has emerged after it was announced that the movie, previously reported to be called Caught In Flight, will go by the title of just Diana.

Naomi Watts Looks Ravishing as Princess Diana

- ABC news

Has Princess Diana risen from the grave?

No, it’s just Naomi Watts looking uncannily similar in these newly released photos in full hair and makeup for her upcoming roll as Princess Diana in the film, “Caught in Flight,” set to premiere next year.

Watts, 43, was photographed in London as she was shooting scenes for the film about the last two years of the Princess of Wales’ life before her death in 1997. Filmmakers plan to include the fatal car crash that killed Princess Diana at age 36.

The film will also focus on Di’s relationships with heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Khan, as well as Dodi Fayed, who was with her in the car crash when she died. Khan will be played by “Lost” actor Naveen Andrews.

It’s Princess Diana reincarnate (especially the hair) — as Naomi Watts is seen for the first time on the shoot of the film “Caught in Flight.”

The Australian-raised actress has openly admitted she worried about looking “nothing whatsoever like Princess Diana” — but the makeup artists and hairstylists have worked their movie magic.

“Caught in Flight,” set for release next year, will explore Diana’s romance with heart surgeon Hasnat Khan.

Naomi Watts, is proving to be the perfect fit for "Caught In Flight." It looks like lensing has begun on the film, the first set pic has dropped, and yeah, Watts is dead ringer for Princess Diana, in a film that will surely draw attention and perhaps some controversy.

Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel ("Downfall," "Five Minutes Of Heaven") and written by Steven Jeffreys ("The Libertine"), the film will focus on Diana's affair with Dr. Hasnat Kahn (played by "Lost" star Naveen Andrews) that lasted from 1995 until a few months before her death in 1997. He was regarded by many to be the love of her life, and she was said to be devastated when the relationship was over, with some speculating that she dated Dodi Fayed in order to make him jealous. And, the script will play into that, reportedly portraying the Princess "as a damaged person who stalks the doctor after he ends the affair."

No word yet on if any other royal figures will be seen in the film, but undoubtedly faithful followers of the royal family will be waiting to see just how "Caught In Flight" portrays Diana, particularly in what would be her last days. No stateside distributor or release date yet, but all those pieces should come together in due course.
