She was caked in mud and fake blood, and performed all of her own stunts for The Impossible.

But Naomi Watts was an absolute vision in blue as she attended the Palm Springs Film Festival, where her young co-star Tom Holland presented her with the Desert Palm Achievement Award for the harrowing role on Saturday.

Bringing out her eyes: Naomi Watts was an absolute vision in blue as she attended the Palm Springs Film Festival Saturday night, where she won the Desert Palm Achievement Award for The Impossible.

The 44-year-old thespian, who played a true-life survivor of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, looked like a goddess in her silky Grecian gown.

The British-Australian actress was also seen wearing a chic black leather blazer over her maxi-dress as she posed alongside the remarkable 16-year-old, with whom she spends the entirety of the drama.

It is an account of just one family caught, with tens of thousands of strangers, in the mayhem of one of the worst natural catastrophes of our time. (....more after the jump)

The 21 Grams star is no stranger to acting in a film based on true life events as she is currently starring in Oliver Hirschbiegel's biopic Diana.

This year, she'll also star in Werner Herzog's drama Queen of the Desert with Robert Pattinson, the drama Sunlight Jr. with Matt Dillon, and the drama Two Mothers with Robin Wright.

Not seen Saturday night was her partner Liev Schreiber and their two sons - five-year-old Alexander and four-year-old Samuel - who were most likely back at their home in New York.

The longtime couple, who have never married, will appear onscreen together in the star-studded comedy Movie 43, due out January 25.

Around 135,000 people are meanwhile expected to attend the annual Palm Springs International Film Festivel - founded by the late Mayor Sonny Bono 24 years ago.

The event features 180 films from 68 countries and runs from January 3-14.
