[Article] What's the Deal with Naomi Watts' Diana Duds?

July 1, 2013, by Justine Harkness, National Enquirer

NAOMI WATTS' secret plan to win the hearts and minds of PRINCESS DIANA acolytes.

SHE’s got the royal hairdo down pat – now Naomi is proving she’s also got Princess Diana’s huge heart.

The gorgeous actress, who’s playing the late Princess of Wales in a highly anticipated biopic, spent thousands to buy clothing she wore in the film and plans to auction it off and donate the proceeds to Diana’s favorite charities.

Naomi, 44, has high hopes the royal role will win her a Best Actress Oscar next February. Donating money from the wardrobe sale is her way of giving back – and giving thanks – for landing the coveted job.........

“Naomi’s extremely focused on seeing this movie to the end,” revealed a source. “She’s going to do all she can to get an Oscar nod, and if she does, she thinks the clothes she wore during the movie could be worth almost as much as those worn by Diana herself.

“That’s why she’s bought almost half of her movie wardrobe. She wants to sell it to help some of Diana’s favorite causes, such as AIDS and land mines.”

Among the stunning pieces Naomi purchased from the wardrobe department were replicas of a one-shoulder cobalt - blue Versace dress Diana wore in 1996 and a black cocktail dress by Christina Stambolian that she donned the night Prince Charles first publicly announced his infidelity in 1994.

The film, “Diana,” which is scheduled for an Aug. 29 release, covers the last two years of the beloved royal’s life. Diana, along with her boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed, was tragically killed in a car accident in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997.

“Naomi’s dream is to win an Oscar,” added the insider, “but she also wants this to be a charity bonanza in Diana’s memory.”
