The Hitchcock classic is being rebooted by director Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes company.
However, the Transformers filmmaker will not direct, handing over the reins to Dutch filmmaker Diederik Van Rooijen.
The Birds was loosely based on a story by Daphne du Maurier and followed a young socialite (the part played by Tippi) who moves to a small town that finds itself under attack by vicious birds.

Don't think she would do this one now.
Though she is the best choice for this role, but with the Diana experience she had better avoid doing this kind of stuff.

This has been going on for almost 3 years, what is happening now?
Naomi certainly will need to think it through before she accepts this part. I analyse the Pros and Cons of doing BIRDS remake.
PROS:
1. Michael Bay, in spite of being disliked among critical community is known to produce and make big blockbusters. This will give an opportunity to star in another big blockbuster after King Kong.
2. If film makes a lot money, likelihood of which is very high, it will squarely put Naomi among superstars of Hollywood. [Mind you, Naomi is one of the most respected actresses in Hollywood, but she doesn't hold the same status among general moviegoers as say.. Lawrence or even Bullock]
CONS:
1. The film will have high standards to match and chances are it will be panned by critics. In that case her status will certainly take a beating after what happened to Diana.
2. If film flops, again her image will take a massive beating considering its going to be a high profile release.
To sum up, it's a highly risky for Naomi to take up the role even though there are certainly some great rewards too. But I agree, after what happened to Diana, I doubt she accept the role. Unless, of course she's looking at doing something big.
